Trustworthy and Optimistic Squarespace Website for a Non-Profit
A mission-driven design for an organization with global reach
The Alfred Friendly Press Partners website is our custom project from 2025. Having worked as journalists in the past ourselves, we enjoyed designing this website as it was dear to our hearts and minds. The task here was to create a mission-driven design with a clear, content-first structure.
The homepage opens up with a full-width hero image of a journalist in the field (who happened to be our friend, a Ukrainian war reporter, Illia Ponomarenko). This bold and attention-grabbing photograph is paired with a strong headline celebrating 40 years of impact of the organization. The whole website reflects the nonprofit's decades-long commitment to training journalists in countries where freedom is under threat. To curate this tone of voice, we used a lot of resonant photography, strong stats, and real human stories.
It was important for us to build a website that communicates trust, transparency, and global impact. Effective use of numbers and social proof stats like "82+ countries trained" and "840+ fellows" immediately establishes credibility. Other sections feature quotes from journalists and fellows that further inspire trust in the work of the non-profit.
The website is structured through color: we use distinct color blocks (white, yellow, and navy) to help visually organize content. These colors also convey a visual tone which is trustworthy, and optimistic, as well as serious without being somber. We used yellow for energy and action and deep blue for professionalism. To make the organization look friendly and approachable, we added origami illustrations.
Subtle CTA buttons offer paths to learn, see impact, and get involved. They are guiding website users to contribute, subscribe, and donate.
