Human-Centered Squarespace Website for a Clinical Social Worker
A modern, approachable website that brings a clinical social worker’s impact to life
The web design for Stephen Hanmer D'Elía, JD, LCSW, is our seven-day custom project based on the Squarespace template Fidelity. Stephen Hanmer is a clinical social worker, so we aimed to create a website that blends clinical authority with genuine human empathy. The site serves as a strong portfolio for Hanmer's professional work across therapy, policy, and international strategy, using a deliberate visual language to build trust and convey expertise.
The color palette is designed to convey both authority and warmth. Colors play a key role in establishing a dual tone of professionalism and approachability. A deep navy blue is used for the header, footer, and key content sections, grounding the design in a sense of trust and seriousness. This color is often associated with clinical and legal fields. A bright, energetic orange is reserved for primary CTAs and navigational buttons. This contrast is intentional: the orange instantly draws the eye, offering warmth and accessibility against the blue, inviting visitors to engage. We also use light gray and off-white backgrounds to ensure optimal contrast and readability, giving the site a clean, modern feel.
The website is structured to guide users through Hanmer's diverse professional background. We use large emotionally resonant hero images at the top of key pages. The visual focus of the photos is set on human connection, which is essential for a therapeutic practice.
Stephen himself appears in the majority of the photos on the website. The images from different time periods reinforce the idea that his experience is deep-rooted and long-standing, not just recent. It showcases his professional career with a rich history of work in multiple fields (policy, social work, international development). Showing Stephen in different, authentic working environments from formal settings to seemingly casual, hands-on situations – builds trust and transparency. It makes him appear genuinely engaged in his work.
Trust is further reinforced through dedicated sections that feature the logos of high-profile collaborators such as UNICEF, Yale, and Aspen Institute. This social proof is presented in a visually clean and straightforward way, immediately communicating the professional caliber of his work.
The content is broken into alternating sections of dark blue and light gray, providing visual relief and clear breaks between topics.
The design relies on a clean, highly legible sans-serif typeface throughout. This choice reinforces the modern and professional tone while ensuring that the heavy volume of academic and clinical text remains easy to read.
