Approachable Squarespace Website for the Wildland Firefighter Community
Wildfire U
Wildfire U is a Canadian organization that aims to provide a place to network and build a strong community of wildland firefighters. It also supports those looking to get into the profession and creates content and courses.
The person behind this community is Melissa MacPherson – a Canadian wildland firefighter herself. She decided to build a website for her community using Squarespace and the Fidelity template from our shop.
Melissa uses a lot of relevant imagery on her website – firefighters' silhouettes, wildfires, and forests. These images immediately tell visitors what the website is about.
With phrases like "A gathering place", "Support the work", "Bringing Canada’s wildland firefighters together", copywriting builds a strong sense of community.
The variations of the fire icon – as a favicon, in the infographics, and as a footer logo – make the web design look consistent.
Melissa uses a lot of simple colors – red, yellow, and greenish-blue – for the accents. Even though they are slightly dimmed, these are the colors you would expect to be in the box of children’s crayons. Think of Google – the simple colors are used to create a user-friendly, approachable interface for as many users as possible. The color palette of the Wildfire U website also has a lot of dark navy blue that brings in a more serious vibe.
The website is filled with useful content: infographics, stats, maps, news, and courses. Even though some courses are under development, labeling them as such sets the right expectations.
Here’s what Melissa from wildfire u has to say about the template:
Also, know that the site isn't "officially" done as I am still building out some pages, but there's enough that others can see how FREAKING GREAT this template is!!
